What makes it different
- Sorts the library by how much space compressing each video would free
- Carries over the date and time (with time zone), location, Favorite and Hidden status, and album membership
- Keeps HDR and Dolby Vision, the frame rate and the original sound
- Checks each compressed copy (it plays, its length matches, its details arrived) before deleting an original
- One iOS confirmation for the whole batch; originals stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days
- Runs a batch with the phone locked and pauses when the phone is warm or the battery is low
Results
A 5-minute 4K Dolby Vision video goes from 2.18 GB to 323 MB (−85%) as 1080p HEVC at 8 Mb/s, with no visible loss on the phone. A batch runs at about the same speed with the phone locked.
