Try Emptie before it’s on the App Store

Emptie is in beta on TestFlight, Apple’s app for testing new apps. It’s free, and it takes two steps on your iPhone.

On a computer? Open emptie.app/beta on your iPhone and follow the steps there.

  1. Get TestFlight

    Install Apple’s free TestFlight app. Skip this if you already have it.

    When it’s installed, don’t tap Open. Come back to this page for step 2.

  2. Join the Emptie beta

    TestFlight opens on Emptie. Tap Accept, then Install.

Seeing “Ready To Test” and a Redeem button? TestFlight was opened on its own, so it doesn’t know about Emptie yet. You don’t need a code. Come back to this page and tap Join the Emptie beta.

Emptie then appears on your Home Screen with an orange dot next to its name. The dot means it’s a beta. It needs an iPhone 11 or later with iOS 26.

This beta replaces your originals for real. Emptie deletes an original only after its smaller copy is saved to Photos and checked, and only after you tap Replace and confirm. Replaced originals stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days, so you can get any of them back.

Free up space

  1. Open Emptie. Read the short intro, tap Allow Photos access and choose Allow Full Access. Emptie needs full access to find your biggest videos. They never leave your iPhone.
  2. Your videos are listed with the biggest saving first. Tap Select, pick some videos, or tap Select 10 biggest, then tap Compress.
  3. Emptie compresses them one at a time. You can lock your iPhone or use other apps meanwhile. For a big batch, plug in.
  4. Tap Review. Tap a video to compare it with its original. Untick any video whose original you want to keep.
  5. Tap Replace. iOS asks once to delete the originals. Tap Delete.
  6. To get the space back now, empty Recently Deleted: in Photos, go to Collections › Recently Deleted, tap Select, then Delete All. Recover any original you want to keep first.

Changed your mind about a video? Get the original back from Recently Deleted within 30 days.

Send feedback

Take a screenshot while you’re in Emptie and TestFlight offers to send it to us with a note. You can also open TestFlight, tap Emptie and tap Send Beta Feedback, or write to [email protected]. A person reads every message.

TestFlight also sends us crash reports. Emptie itself collects nothing. See the privacy policy.

Good to know

  • New builds arrive in TestFlight. Turn on Automatic Updates there to get them without asking.
  • Each beta build works for 90 days. TestFlight tells you when a newer one is ready.
  • Your Total Freed and settings stay when you update.

Known issues in build 0.1.0 (1)

  • A video saved from another app, such as WhatsApp or Telegram, and recorded before a daylight saving change can show its time an hour off in Photos once it’s replaced. Fixed in the next build.
